Melanie Birden. Symbiosis. 2024. 45cm x 45cm acrylic on canvas

symbiosis / sɪmbʌɪˈəʊsɪs,sɪmbɪˈəʊsɪs / interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both.

“Symbiosis” is a painting showing an abstract interpretation of Artificial Intelligence in relation to humans. Even though the word “Symbiosis” typically expresses a mutually beneficial relationship between two organisms, the artwork leaves room for any interpretation. The painting depicts a humanoid figure, without  clear definition whether human or not, surrounded by a couple of hands interacting in various ways.

The process involved no use of any AI tools and it simply meant to symbolize the existence and relationship of AI with humanity. The colors were chosen to support the chaotic nature of the depiction.
