In an era where technology is rapidly evolving, AI has emerged as a transformative force in media and visual culture. The project delves into the dynamic intersection between Ai and media, exploring how AI is reshaping our understanding and creation of visual content. AI enhances family trees by generating detailed visualizations, restoring and enhancing old photographs, and creating interactive timelines that highlight key events, connections and brings elements to life in a family’s history. By leveraging AI, I aim to highlight its role in driving new creative possibilities, addressing contemporary challenges, and shaping future trends in visual culture.

Inspired by the resilient African baobab, my family tree design honors ancestry and roots. It branches across four generations, from myself and my sisters at the trunk, to our great-great grandparents. Circular shapes represent our lineage, while unique fingerprints highlight our individual identities within the shared story.
The family tree designs illustrate the foundational concepts and historical progression of AI within media. From this foundation, I've employed AI to generate a series of renditions that showcase its innovative applications and capabilities. AI sites used: Adobe Firefly - Image generations and designs. As my design incorporated fingerprints of the different family members, I asked AI to illustrate different fingerprints to symbolize the different family members, and it did a pretty good job in generating different variations of designs and different colors for family member.
When writing different prompts to feed into the AI models, I included that I’m an African from Kenya. The models tried to incorporate the Kenyan heritage and unique cultural elements of Kenya into the designs generated to make it more engaging and authentic.I asked it to include illustrations for paternal and maternal sides and little information that I fed in about different family members, although it generated images in a foreign language.
I asked Ai to create different variations of colorful tree designs, incorporating a range of vibrant hues, different color schemes and styles to highlight the diversity and beauty of natural forms. The aim was to generate visually striking and imaginative representations that capture the essence and complexity of tree shapes and their colorful possibilities.
Challenges
Some AI models encountered issues because they misinterpreted the input data, resulting in inaccuracies. This underscored the need for clear, accurate, and well-structured data to ensure reliable and meaningful results.
