Designer in the Dark: An AI-assisted branding experience is an infographic that sheds light on the challenges that arise from creating a brand using Artificial Intelligence, as well as the experience and role of the designer in the process. The final brand showcased in the infographic, named Shadow, was created for a restaurant that offers a dark dining experience, serving gourmet desserts to blindfolded guests. This unique brand was intentionally conceptualised to determine if AI would transcend its role as an assistant and deliver mouth-watering deliverables. However, with suggested names like Moonshadow Munch and trypophobia-inducing strawberries, AI’s involvement in the creative process only emphasized the need for the designer.
Rachel van Zyl is a South African designer who graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in Information Design. Since then, she has embarked on a career in User interface design, combining creativity and usability in her work.
She is passionate about branding and UI/UX design, with an affinity for ornate detailing and intricate patterns. Besides her love for baroque-style detail, she prioritizes both visual appeal and storytelling in her work, driven by a desire to convey meaningful concepts and leave a lasting impression.
