February 7, 2020: Collecting and Presenting African Arts in the Museums of the Global North – A Perspective from Cameroon: Paul Assako (Universitäten Duala und Jaunde – Cameroon) & Stefan Eisenhofer (Museum Fünf Kontinente München)
What happens to African objects when they arrive at museums in the Global North? How are they exhibited? What do they convey to visitors? What is collected and exhibited - and what not? To what extent are these works relevant for (art) education in schools and universities? Paul Assako and Stefan Eisenhofer guide visitors through the permanent exhibition "Living Traditions. Creative Present. Art from Africa" focussing contemporary and older works from Africa. In dialogue with the visitors, new perspectives on these works are opened up.
