The Provenance Research Project at the Museum Fünf Kontinente Munich will present its results.

The Provenance Research Project, the ´Blue Rider Post´ and the Max von Stetten Collection (1893 – 1896), all from Cameroon,  will be on exhibit at the Museum Fünf Kontinente in Munich for 12 months beginning on November 1st, 2019. It is funded by the German Lost Art Foundation and the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts. The research project is considered particularly urgent due to the positions held by Max von Stetten (1860 – 1925) in Cameroon. He was head of the police force and commander of the “Protection Corps” when Cameroon was a German colony from 1911 to 1916. In collaboration with scholars from Cameroon and the presumed source communities, the aim of the project is to conduct detailed research on each of the 200 objects he gave to the museum as well as on the circumstances of their acquisition. At the same time, the oral history of the source communities will be recorded to gain a shared narrative about this period of German-Cameroonian history.
