Masi Nako, Colour and Perception, 2023, Photograph, 635 x 423 mm
The Colour and Perception image was created under the huge topic of Gender matters photo essay by Nako in July 2023. The work is focused on the perception of colour and how colours are often associated with gender or sexual types. Nako has also brought up the colour topic relating it to Gender by using surrealism and pink and wanting the viewer to assume the gender of the person wearing the shoe. This is to demonstrate how people are quick to judge according to appearances or their perception which is not always correct. The project was inspired by French surrealist photographer, Brooke DiDonato. Nako chose surrealism as it talks more about her childhood experiences and gives her a voice. She is very passionate about storytelling, bringing change, and telling untold stories. Her images are composition that evokes traditional rules and perceptions.
