Janina Totzauer (born 1988 in Munich, Germany) is a video artist, sculptor and collector. Her studies in media arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, the University of Cape Town in South Africa and the Universidad Nácional Autónoma de Mexico in Mexico City nourished her interest in human rituals in all corners of the world. Over the years, her studies have focused on cross-cultural and interspecies research. Since her study visit to South Africa in 2015, her research of human rituals has led her away from exploring the differences and towards understanding the commonalities in ritual use across the human cultures of our planet. For the past three years, Totzauer has lived and worked in her two adopted countries of Germany and Mozambique.
