Princess Marilyn Douala Manga Bell, born in Cameroon in 1957, is deeply committed to honoring the legacy of her great-grandfather, Rudolf Manga Bell (1873-1914), who led a significant resistance movement against German colonial rule. One of her key objectives is to contribute to the ongoing debates on the politics of remembrance in Cameroon and beyond. She studied development economics in Paris and has worked as a development expert since 1994, with experience at institutions such as the World Bank and the European Commission. In 1991, she co-founded the Contemporary Art Center doual'art in Douala, which has become a leading cultural institution in Cameroon. Additionally, she is an advocate for the future of African museums and actively supports the restitution of cultural artifacts looted during the colonial era.
